In Irish folklore, the horseshoe is a symbol of protection and good fortune, often hung over doorways to attract luck and repel evil. Traditionally, it is placed with ends pointing upward (like a ‘U’) to “collect” luck, or sometimes downward to “pour” luck onto those passing under it.
